What is mouth?
Opening to oral cavity where food enters and is back-up air for the air to eneter the body.
What is nose/nasal cavity?
The hollow space inside the nose that allows the air to pass through.
What is lung?
The major organ of the respiratory system where gas exchange occurs.
What is sinus?
Hollow airfilled spaces in the skulls that produce mucus to clean the air you breath.
Ribs are bones that protect the lungs and between are the intercostal muscles that are skeletal and contract and relax to regulate the breathing.
What is lobe?
Sections of the lung. The right lung has three lobes and the left lung has two lobes.
An involuntary muscle that contracts and relaxes to regulate breathing.
What is trachea?
The tube that leads the air from the pharynx to the lung.
What is bronchus?
The two tubes that lead from the trachea to each lung.
What is Larynx?
Voicebox that allows you to speak.
What is thorax?
The region of the body that holds the respiratory system.
What is bronchiole?
Small tubes with lots of surface aria that distribute air between lungs.
What is Pharynx?
IT is part of the throat behind the mouse and has the nasal and oral cavities.
What is epiglottis?
The flap that covers the trachea during swallowing so that food does not enter the lungs.
What is Alveoli?
Microscopic membrane sacks that are semi-permeable and allow for the diffussion of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
