Women's swimsuits have changed over time. In the 1870s, women swam in loose dresses with baggy pants. They had to keep their legs covered. Early swimsuits were often made of wool. They were heavy and didn't dry quickly. In 1907, Annette Kellerman, a great swimmer from Australia, took a chance. She wore a tight one-piece swimsuit on a beach in Boston. She had designed it herself. She was arrested for wearing it. By the 1930s, women were no longer keeping their legs covered. Today's bathing suits come in different styles, from tanks to two-piece suits.

Jamestown, Virginia, was settled in 1607. It is known as the first continuing English settlement in the United States. However, Jamestown is not the oldest European settlement. That would be St. Augustine, Florida. St. Augustine was settled in 1565. The Spanish, rather than the English, founded St. Augustine. Spain claimed Florida while England was settling the lands to the north. A major difference between St. Augustine and Jamestown is that St. Augustine is still a city today. Old Jamestown was deserted and fell into ruins, but it was later rebuilt for tourists.

For many years, trade and travel between the United States and China were not allowed. A 1971 Ping-Pong tournament in Japan helped to change that. An American player and a Chinese player at the tournament met, shook hands, and exchanged gifts. In response to this friendly meeting, China's leader, Mao Zedong, invited the American Ping-Pong team to visit China. This official Chinese welcome led to talks between the Chinese and American leaders. The talks resulted in opening travel and trade between the two countries.

There are two official languages: English and Filipino. But almost everyone there grows up speaking at least one native Philippine language.
