Opposite sides are equal, so if one side is 3in, the opposite side is 3in, which together makes 6in.

24-6=18, so if I divide 18 in half, I get 9.  So the other side is 9in.

20 = 4 x ?

20 divided by 4 = 5in

The missing side is 5in.

Perimeter is  4 + 5 + 4 + 5= 18in

Draw a rectangle.  The perimeter is 24cm.  The longer side is 7in.  What is the AREA of the rectangle?  Give equations to solve and label.

If one side is 7, the opposite side is 7 too, so 7+7=14.  

24-14=10, so take half of 10 and you get 5.  So the missing sides are each 5.  

Area = L x w

A = 7 x 5 = 35 square cm
