Prussia was the strongest state; Otto von Bismarck believed Germany should be unified through “Blood and Iron,” meaning military power. After defeating France, the German states united in 1871 and created the German Empire with William I as Kaiser.

Tell us the story of the failed Estates General Meeting, the Tennis Court Oath, to the the storming of the Bastille.

The Estates General was a meeting called by Louis 16th. When it failed, the poor people (Third Estate) went to a tennis court to keep discussing the changes they wanted. While there, they heard King Louis was sending people to kill them, so they went to a prison called the Bastille (supposed to have ammunition and prisoners) and took it over.

The American Revolution changed the way subjects viewed their kings. Why did the Americans believe they had a right to ignore what King George said? 

They believed the king's power didn't come from God (Divine Right of Kings), but came instead from people voluntarily giving them power by voting (consent of the governed). When the king continued to tax them without giving them a vote, the people rebelled.
