What are the 3 requirements for a buyer to be able to use multi-shop checkout on Etsy: 

  • The shops that the buyer are checking out from must all offer Etsy Payments.
  • There is a limit of 10 shops when paying for a multi-shop purchase via Integrated PayPal. 
  • A buyer cannot check out using standalone PayPal.

Who are the 2 parties involved in a gift card purchase?

  • Buyer/Sender: The member purchasing the Gift Card on Etsy to give to someone
  • Recipient: The member receiving the gift card and ultimately redeeming/claiming it to their account for use

In order to use iDeal, a member must

  • be logged into an existing Etsy account
  • add the item into their cart
  • choose their default country settings as Netherlands
  • choose EUR as currency 
  • have a bank account in the Netherlands

To sign up for Etsy Payments, a seller must have:

  1. A credit/debit card* 
  2. A Bank account

What is the Uplift Fund?

When a US buyer in the experiment makes a purchase through Etsy Payments and in USD, they will have the option to donate to Etsy’s Uplift Fund. 

Buyers can round up to the nearest dollar and donate their change. Donating is entirely optional.

Does a seller need to have an account with all the different payment options (such as PayPal, Klarna, etc.) to accept payment?

Sellers using Etsy Payments do not need an account with any of these services to receive money from them.

What is a prepaid card?

Prepaid Gift cards are technically a type of debit or credit card. They are issued by a financial institution or credit card company such as Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

What is this $0.01 charge for in Authorization?

When the buyer submits their order, we place an authorization in the amount of the order on their card.

What might be a problem to check out with Sofort or iDEAL?  

  • The buyer's settings are not set to Euro and Netherlands. 
  • The member doesn't have a Dutch bank account. 
  • The member is buying an item from an Etsy Pattern site. 
  • The member is purchasing via "Buy it now"

A credit card is required for most sellers, but not all, what are the countries exempt. 

Netherlands, Austria, and Germany are exempt.

When buyers are going to be able to use a prepaid card to purchase on Etsy? 

When the balance on the Prepaid Gift card covers the total amount of the order. (We don't have a way to split the payment with pre-paid cards).

Mention one of the several reasons may cause a card to be declined during checkout:

  • Typo in the credit card info. 
  • Billing address and card address don’t match. 
  • Purchase amount exceeds buyer’s card limit. 
  • Fraud Response "Reject" - Escalate to Fraud Team using Macro: Escalate > To Fraud. 
  • Fraud responses "Review" - Please follow the workflow from this card(opens in a new tab). 
  • Prepaid card has not yet been activated - The buyer needs to contact the card issuer to activate it.

Where a gift card or credit balance can be viewed? 

by clicking “You” near the top right of the Etsy page. This balance will automatically be applied to any future purchases where the shop accepts Etsy Gift Cards.

What is the checkout Process with Sofort

Buyers who want to checkout with Sofort need to log in to a Klarna portal to complete their purchase. 

  • Registered Klarna users can use their existing login which will work seamlessly with SOFORT 
  • New Klarna users will be required to complete a short registration process to set up a user account
