Lucia's mother kept the scissors in a drawer with a child safety lock. One day after using the scissors, her mother put the scissors back into the drawer but didn't push it hard enough to lock it. A few days later, Lucia found the drawer open and found the scissors. Then she gave herself a haircut. By the time she was done, most of her hair was on the floor.

The cause was the mother didn't close the drawer all the way. The effect was Lucia cut her hair off.
