Explain MS WORD
A computer program that is used to create, retrieve, format, store, and print text.
Define Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is a grid of columns and rows used to enter and manage numeric information, create charts and so much more.
Differentiate between Hardware and Software
Hardware are the physical structure of the computer or things you can touch physically. Example: Monitor, keyboard etc
Software are the things in the computer that we cannot touch physically, software are also programs that are inside the computer.
Differentiate between Primary storage and Secondary storage
Primary storage is the main memory of the computer, examples are RAM and ROM
Secondary storage is any storage that is non volatile, and is used to store data and programs for later retrieval. Examples are Flashdrive, HDD, etc
Define Database
it is a collection of information or lists that is organized so that it can be easily accessed, retrieved, managed and updated.
What are the two character spacing ?
Fixed Spacing and Proportional Spacing
Give 2 examples of a Spreadsheet program
What are the 5 hardware categories/types?
Input, Output, Storage, Processing, Communication
What are the 3 physical types of memory? Explain Transistor and give 1 example
Optical, Transistor, Magnetic
Transistor memory are tiny chips with no moving parts, They use electricity but they don’t have to spin a disc or move a pen around to read and write the data.
example Flash drive
What are the two types of database?
Flaf file database and Relational Database
Name the two types of font and define them
Serif and San Serif
Serif font is the type of font that has lines at the end of characters.
San serif are font that has NO line at the end of characters. Sans means without.
This part of excel is where you type down formulas and functions and also whatever you type here will show in the active cell
Formula Bar
Explain the function of Power Supply
A power supply provides electricity for the computer in order to work, and it converts AC to DC
Explain 2 differences between RAM and ROM
RAM is temporary memory, Temporarily holds data while it is processed by the CPU, and it stores whatever data you currently are working on the computer makes sure you access it quickly. And is the main memory of the computer.
ROM
Contains permanent instructions and start-up programs E.g. BIOS. This Basic Input Output System is used by the Operating System when the computer is first turned on.
ROM is non-volatile – data remain when the computer is off.
What are the 4 objects in MS Access
Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports
Explain Margins
The margins are the edges around a document that do not have type on them. It can also be called White space. Four types of margins are Top, Bottom, Left and Right.
IF $A$2 means the column and row do not change when copied
$A2 means the ____ does not change when copied
A$2 means the ____ does not change when copied
Column
Row
There are two parts/components to CPU that helps it function. What are they and tell me what they both do.
Arithmetic logic unit (ALU) which is responsible for calculations on data, such as addition, multiplication, etc.
Control Unit controls the speed of the computer operations.
Draw the data flow diagram on the board in 30 seconds.
Output
Secondary------Main Mem------CPU
Input
Give 3 examples of a database application software.
MS Access, Paradox, File maker, Open Office Base, D-base, etc
Oracle Database, MySQL
Explain in your own words what First line indent looks like when applied to a paragraph.
The first line is indented while the rest stays the same
What are the two types of cell references and define them
Relative cell reference and Absolute Cell reference
Relative cell reference is a type of cell reference where if you copy a formula to other cells the value CHANGES!
Absolute means if you copy a formula down to other cells the value STAYS THE SAME or DOES NOT CHANGE!
What are the two types of Printer and explain what they mean
Impact and Non impact.
Impact means the printer has to physically press the ink onto the paper. E.g. Dot matrix. This method is slow and time consuming.
Non impact Printer does not touch the paper when transferring the ink. E.g Laser, Ink jet & bubble jet. These printers are faster, clearer and commonly used by large schools and businesses.
Differentiate between Transistor and Magnetic memory
Transistor memory are tiny memory chip with no moving parts. They use electricity but they don’t have to spin a disc or move a pen around to read and write the data.
Magnetic memory: uses magnetic “read and write head” to read and write data to their media.
Give 1 similarity and 1 difference of MS ACCESS and MS WORD
They both have similar features, like it has a ribbon of tools and also status bar at the bottom.
They input different types of data, and used for different things, MS WORD is a word processor ,mostly for typing essays and inputting text, images MS ACCESS is a database used to store large amounts of data in tables.
