Who established Racial Harmony Day?


The Ministry of Education (MOE)

In 1996, tests conducted by MOE on students and street polls showed that many Singaporeans, particularly those from the post-independence generation, knew little about their country’s history. These findings led then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong to call for a citizenship education programme, known as National Education, to become a part of the school curriculum. During the launch, Racial Harmony Day was designated as one of several key events to be celebrated in schools as part of the programme.
