How is an open letter different from an essay?

Or, in a different way, how might an open letter be a preferable genre to write over an essay?

An open letter is different from an essay because it is simply more informal. An open letter is the published version of a blog, so to speak.

So, one would choose to write an open letter because it is easier to write an publish!

Pathos and Logos- Churchill famously inspired his country and others to rally against Hitler's armies and to stand up to evil. Students Need Better School Lunches

I think that schools need better options to give to their students to eat at lunch because most of the options are not healthy or variety.

November 8, 2016

Dear future president,

Schools need better lunches to give to their students. School lunches are normally very unappealing and taste bad. Some students will refuse to eat their school lunch because it has no variety, there are no healthy options and nothing that sounds appealing to eat every single day of the week. You need to give schools better lunches so that they can have a better, and productive day at school knowing that they have food that will last them throughout the day.

Writer: Jenna L.

Topic: School Lunches

Purpose: to convince school board/parents to advocate for better school lunch options at schools

Audience: School board/parents

Context: School lunch foods typically suck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugna3yDv6OQ

Logos, ethos, pathos. Romney uses Lincoln's ethos to explain how as president (logos) he will serve all people, not just those his party aligns with (pathos).
