I tell time at school, but I’m not a clock. I ring loud and clear.

I start as eggs in waters deep,
Then jump on land with legs to leap.

I help you wait and stay in line,
Even when things don’t go your way just fine

I help you learn what words all mean,
Alphabetized, neat, and clean.
A Dictionary
I’m full of stories, facts, and pictures, but I can’t read myself.
Books
I wear black stripes, white ones too,
A horse-like friend from the zoo.
Zebra
I think before I speak each day,
So hurtful words don’t slip my way.
Self-Control
I go up but never come down,
I make kids older in every town.
Age
I help you learn every day, but I’m not a student. I give lessons and grades.
Teacher
When winter’s cold and food is rare,
I sleep it through with special care.
A Bear
I stop and breathe when feelings rise,
I make calm choices being wise.

I make light when it’s dark at night,
But I’m not the sun or a flashlight.
