Steps to cleaning the Nova Stat Strip Glucometer....
What is:
1. Don gloves.
2. Remove meter from the base for cleaning.
3. Place on a level surface.
4. Remove a fresh wipe from the canister
5. Squeeze excess fluid from the wipe before use.
6. Wipe the external surface of the meter thoroughly with the wipe.
(Contact time of 2 minutes is not required during the cleaning step)
7. Discard the discard soiled wipe in the general, or regular trash.

Steps to Disinfecting the Nova Stat Strip Glucometer....
What is:
2: Disinfecting procedure
1. Remove a fresh wipe from the canister.
2. Squeeze excess fluid from the wipe before use.
3. Thoroughly wipe the external surface of the meter (top, bottom, left and right sides) a minimum of 3 times horizontally followed by 3 times vertically, avoiding the bar code scanner and electrical connector.
4. Gently wipe the surface area of the test strip port making sure no fluid enters the port.
5. Allow the meter to remain wet for the contact time specific for the disinfectant wipe/product being used. Disinfectant wipe/product used should match the isolation precautions of the patient.
6. Allow the meter to air dry for the amount of time specific for the disinfectant wipe/product being used.
7. Ensure that the meter is completely dry before patient testing.
8. Dispose of soiled wipe and gloves in the general, or regular trash.
9. Inspect the glucometer for any damage or cracks. If any damage is observed, notify the POCT dept to request replacement by emailing zzPDL_POC@mskcc.org. Include the glucometer serial number in the electronic message notification. The serial number can be found on the back of the glucometer.
