Do individuals in recovery have to take MAT medications for the rest of their life?

No. 

The goal is to provide extra support during the initial recovery phases in conjunction with the individuals' personal recovery plan. (meetings, therapy...)  It is discouraged to remain on MAT medications long-term. You and your treatment team can determine the length of time you need to remain on them for the added support.
