Act 1 Scene 1-2

Scene 1

- Street fight between Montague (Abram and Balthasar) and Capulet (Sampson and Gregory) servants

- Benvolio wants to break it up but Tybalt escalates the situation, Lord and Lady Capulet and Montague show up, shortly after Prince Escalus ends the fight (threatens death if they fight again)

- Benvolio finds Romeo moping over rejection from Rosaline, Benvolio suggests he find someone else to love

Scene 2

- Paris asks Lord Capulet for permission to marry Juliet, Capulet says she's still too young (two weeks shy of 14)

- Capulet agrees to let Juliet see Paris and decide if she wants to date/marry him at the party he's hosting later that night

- Capulet sends Peter with a guest list for the party. Peter can't read and asks Romeo and Benvolio for help

- They see that Rosaline is attending and decide to go to help Romeo get over her but in disguise

Scene 1

- Benvolio suggests he and Mercutio retire to avoid conflict with the Capulets that are out

- Tybalt and Co. approach and ask about their relation to Romeo

- Romeo enters and says he loves Tybalt (his new cousin) to which Tybalt says he wants to fight

- Romeo says he cannot fight family and instead Mercutio challenges Tybalt

- Romeo tries to stop the fight but gets in the way and causes Mercutio to be stabbed by Tybalt

- Mercutio curses them both and Benvolio asks if he's okay

- Romeo blames himself but mainly Tybalt

- Benvolio returns with news of Mercutio's death

- Tybalt returns and is killed by the angry Romeo

- Paris is speaking to the Friar when Juliet shows up and Paris makes some "future wife" comments before leaving so Juliet can confess

- Juliet tells Laurence of her plans to kill herself to which he says that he'll help her fake her death to reunite with Romeo if she'll not kill herself

- Friar gives Juliet a sleeping potion and she leaves

Scene 2

- Capulet stays up getting ready for the wedding

- Juliet returns and pretends to have been convinced to marry Paris by the Friar

Scene 3-5

Scene 3

Scene 3

- Juliet sends her Nurse and mother away claiming to want sleep for the day ahead

- Juliet takes the sleeping potion after worrying that it will kill her, not work, or leave her awake with the ghosts of her relatives

-  Capulet orders servants around and tells Nurse to go wake Juliet because Paris has arrived

Scene 5

- Nurse cannot wake up Juliet and then realizes that she's "dead"

- Lady Capulet and Capulet enter and begin to mourn

- Paris and Friar learn of her death and Paris mourns, Friar says they should be glad heaven has gained her and bury her in the family tomb

- The musicians get ready to leave because the wedding isn't going to happen but Peter asks them to play a sad song to make him feel better

- Musicians say no and start insulting him

Act 2 Scene 1-3

- Romeo hides in Capulet's orchard to go see Juliet

- Benvolio and Mercutio drunkenly look for him but withdraw after he doesn't respond to their calling

Scene 2

- Romeo talks to himself about how beautiful Juliet is

- Juliet emerges onto the balcony and begins asking why Romeo has to be a Capulet (the enemy of her family) but then says that she doesn't care about his name because she loves him

- Romeo reveals himself and promises his love to Juliet who is slightly hesitant before convincing her to marry him

- Nurse calls for Juliet and so they say hesitant goodbyes before agreeing to meet again at nine the next day

Scene 3

- In his cell Friar Laurence talks about gathering from the earth before Romeo enters to speak to him

- The Friar asks if Romeo was with Rosaline to which Romeo tells him about his relationship with Juliet

- Laurence thinks it's too soon for him to marry Juliet but agrees to marry them with the hope that it will end the family feud

- Romeo says death would be more merciful but the Friar tells him he's fortunate

- Juliet awakes and realizes Romeo is dead, the Friar tries to get her to go with him but flees when he hears a noise

- Juliet stabs herself before the watchmen enter

- Watchmen apprehend Friar and Balthasar for questioning

- Prince and Capulets show up to see what's going on and Montague enters with news of his wife's death

- Nurse returns but asks for a minute to catch her breath, Juliet convinces her to share Romeo's message by giving her a back massage

- Nurse tells her to meet Romeo at Friar Laurence's cell while she covers for her with Lady Capulet

Scene 6

- Romeo and Friar await Juliet in his cell, Friar warns that this may end badly

- Juliet enters and her and Romeo beginning exchanging compliments

- Friar tells them to wait until marriage and they prepare for marriage

Scene 4 (Monday)

- Capulet says that with everything going on Paris hasn't had a chance to meet Juliet

- Paris says they should move things along and both Lord and Lady Capulet agree to let him marry her on Thursday

- Lady Capulet is sent to tell Juliet the news

Scene 5

- Romeo has to leave because it's morning but Juliet wishes he could stay but then Juliet tells him to go so he can be safe

- Nurse enters to tell Juliet of her mother's approach

- Romeo leaves and both say that the other looks ill

- Lady Capulet tells Juliet of her approaching marriage, Juliet is unhappy, and Lord Capulet enters

- Lord Capulet says she is ungrateful and will be disowned if she doesn't marry Paris and tells Nurse to back off

- Nurse says she should just marry Paris and Juliet loses her best friend, plans to see the Friar and kill herself if necessary
