Rotation Basics
A rotation is also known as this.
What is a Turn?
The rule for a 90° counterclockwise rotation.
(x, y) → (-y, x)
The point of (3, 4) after a 90° clockwise rotation (Starts in Quadrant I).
(3,4) → (4, -3) (Moves to Quadrant IV)
A rotation moves a figure around this fixed point.
What is a Origin?
The rule for a 180° rotation.
(x, y) → (-x, -y)
The image of (-5, 2) after a 180° rotation (Starts in Quadrant II).
(-5,2) → (5,-2) (Moves to Quadrant IV)
A rotation changes this but not the figure's size.
What is Orientation?
The rule for a 270° clockwise rotation.
(x, y) → (y, -x)
The image of (0, -6) after a 270° counterclockwise rotation (Starts on the y-axis).
(0,-6) → (-6,0) (Moves to Quadrant II)
