Name AND describe one of the 4 + 1 B.A/M.A. Programs.

Philosophy undergraduate majors now have the opportunity to apply for a 4 + 1 B.A./M.A. in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics (PPE). This means students earning a B.A. in Philosophy, Political Science, or Economics may earn a M.A. (offered by the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science in the School of Social Sciences) with one additional year of study.
The PPE program is based on the premise that the three disciplines are mutually supporting and each necessary to full understanding of social phenomena. Philosophy equips students with tools to reason rigorously and facilitates ethical reflection. Economics provides tools for evaluating individual and collective decision. And Politics provides an understanding of the real context in which ethical and economic principles must be applied.

The Art History B.A./M.A. 4+1 Program began Fall 2016. This Program is for UCI undergraduates majoring or minoring in Art History. Other UCI students may apply as well if they have taken two upper division Art History courses. Students can begin course work during the last year of the B.A. and are required to take a total of nine courses, equivalent to 36 units toward the M.A.

Asian American Studies 4+1 B.A./M.A: Asian American Studies is announcing a newly minted 4+1 program, the only one in the country. Students who are admitted into the program will receive a M.A. in Asian American Studies after one additional year of study.

European Thought and Culture 4+1 B.A./M.A.: The School of Humanities has just received approval to implement another brand new 4+1 program, leading to a M.A. in European Thought and Culture after one additional year of study.
