What is meant by the term WEATHER?

The day-to-day changes in our atmosphere. It includes the following elements: precipitation (rainfall), temperature, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine, air pressure, cloud cover and humidity.

100

Describe what a temperate zone is.

Temperate zones have moderate conditions – mild summers and cool winters. Rainfall occurs throughout the year.

100

Describe weather in the Tundra.

Very cold and very dry.

100

What is meant by the term 'Climate Change'?

Long term shifts in weather patterns that are different from the usual weather in the climate zone.

200

What zone would you find the Amazon rainforest?

Tropical

200

What is meant by the term CLIMATE?

The overall environmental conditions of an area. It is based on an average over a 30 year period.

200

Describe what an arid zone is.

Arid zones are very hot and very dry. We call them deserts.

Deserts are areas of the world which have less than 250mm of rainfall all year.

200

Describe whether in the Mediterranean.

Hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.

200

Name 1 physical cause of Climate Change.

Using too much electricity, diesel/petrol cars, aerosols etc.

300

How would you describe mountainous zone weather?

  • The temperature on mountains becomes colder the higher the altitude (height of the land) gets.

  • This happens because as altitude increases, air becomes thinner and is less able to absorb heat.

300

Name 1 traditional culture of the Tundra.

What is global warming?

ome gases are very good at trapping heat in our atmosphere – these are called greenhouse gases (such as C02, nitrous oxide, and methane). Human beings are producing too many of these gases which makes our planet warmer and leads to a rise in global temperature.
