What is Diacetyl?

A December 2015 Harvard study concluded that diacetyl, which is associated with popcorn lung, is present in many of the flavorings in e-cigarettes.

"Popcorn lung" is the nickname for bronchiolitis obliterans. That's a condition that damages your lungs' smallest airways and makes you cough and feel short of breath. It got its name because workers in a microwave popcorn plant got it from the chemical (diacetyl) used to flavor the popcorn.
