Describe the purpose of a tourniquet. Where can it go? How do you treat a large cut when a tourniquet cannot be used?
Tourniquet = to cut off blood supply to an open wound. Place it on an extremity above the wound. If injury cannot accept a tourniquet, apply pressure and fill the wound with dressings/gauze until wound stops bleeding.
Explain the steps to take for heat cramps vs heat exhaustion
Heat cramps= rest, cool off, give electrolyte drink
Heat exhaustion scene is safe, first aid kit, call 911, have the person lie down, remove as much clothing as possible, cool the person down with water spray, have the person drink an electrolyte drink.
