Grinding through grueling workouts, practices and games every day of the year, combined with rigorous college courses, student-athletes are some of the hardest working people in the country. However, as amateurs, athletes cannot be compensated with anything more than a scholarship. College football has become a multi-million dollar business. Universities continue to make money, while all athletes are given is a scholarship. Despite the fact that they receive a full scholarship, there are costs that are not included in the scholarship. The scholarship covers most of the expenses, but some estimated that actual costs of living are $1,500 more than covered. Since most will never play a sport professionally, they accumulate debt in school. Another important factor is that many of the athletes come from poor backgrounds. To add insult to injury, it is illegal to work a job during the year. This creates a situation where the athletes are faced with a dilemma between taking money and accumulating debts.
The author most likely wrote this selection to –
A) suggest that college athletes are being taken advantage of
B) reveal the amount scholarship money that athletes receive
C) highlight the importance of college athletes
D) argue that college athletes should be paid

Raisins are a popular snack because they are a source of natural sugars to keep you going between meals. Golden raisins – which are dried via dehydration in specialized machines – tend to be moister and plumper than regular raisins, which are air dried and have a chewier texture. Both types of raisins offer health benefits and have similar nutritional content. You'll have to look hard to find much nutritional difference between golden and regular raisins. That's because, despite what you might think, they're actually made from the same types of grapes – and the differences in color and texture come from the way they're dried. According to USDA data, both kinds of raisins have about 85 calories per ounce, or about 4 percent of your daily value. They're both naturally fat-free and supply a tiny amount of protein – about 2 percent of what you need in a day. And they have similar amounts of sugar, supplying about 35 percent of your daily sugar allowance per ounce
The author most likely wrote this selection to –
A) highlight the differences between golden raisins and regular raisins
B) explain the similarities between two types of raisins
C) convey the benefits of eating raisins
D) convince the reader to eat golden-raisins instead of regular raisins
B) explain the similarities between two types of raisins

Tootsie Rolls are about as American as apple pie and baseball, even though they were technically invented by an Austrian immigrant. Tootsie Rolls were the first candies sold individually wrapped in 1905. While today that might seem like Basic Hygiene 101 in the candy business, it was a monumental junk food breakthrough at the time. Another revolutionary aspect of Tootsie Rolls was their ability to deliver a chocolate treat that could really withstand the heat. A major dilemma for candy makers in the early 20th-century was serving up confections that didn't easily melt in the hot summer months (this is obviously before luxuries like air conditioning and refrigeration). And keeping chocolate intact? Forget it. So while they weren't technically chocolate, Tootsie Rolls were a pretty satisfying chocolaty substitute for when a chocolate hankering hit, which essentially gave them god-like status. Hey, if there is a chocolate problem and you solve it, you're bound to make a lot of folks pretty happy.
The author most likely wrote this selection to –
A) inform the reader about the origin of Tootsie Rolls
B) illustrate how Tootsie Rolls were invented
C) explain what’s made Tootsie rolls so successful and popular
D) reveal how Tootsie Rolls are made
