Mass & Weight
100

Where motion is referred to by the positions of 2 ridged objects.

What is FRAME OF REFERENCE?

100

Measure of the force of gravity on an object.

What is WEIGHT?

100

Abby pushes a box East at 8N.

Billy pushes the box West at 9N.

Solve for Net Force.

State if forces are balanced.

Net Force=1N

Forces are NOT balanced.

100

When North faces North, magnets do this.

What is REPELL?

100

The definition of the Universal Law of Gravitation.

What is “The force of gravity between objects depends on the mass of objects and the distance between them.”

200

Force of attraction between magnets or magnets and certain metals.

What is MAGNETIC FORCE?

200

A push or a pull.

What is a FORCE?

200

Xavier pulls a wagon North at 11N.

Zach pushes the wagon North at 10N.

Solve for total Net Force.

Are Forces Balanced?

Netforce=21N

Forces are Not Balanced.

200

When South faces North, this happens.

What is ATTRACT?

200

How maglev trains work.

What is “Repelling magnets on the track and train cause it to levitate. Attracting magnets guide the train down the track.” Pg.55

300

The overall change in the position of an object.

What is DISPLACEMENT?

300

Type of friction that opposes an object through the air.

What is AIR RESISTANCE?

300

Charlie walks down the aisle of the bus and tosses a coin.

David is on the sidewalk, and sees this through the windows.

Draw the trajectory of the coin from Charlies Frame of Reference and from David’s.

Charlie would see the coin go up and down.

David would see it go up, move forward, then down. (Arch)

300

Draw the magnetic lines of a horseshoe magnet.

Pg.55: North lines go outward, as South go inward.

300

This is why mass and weight are different.

What is that weight depends on gravity acting on an object, while mass simply is the amount of matter in it.

400

Measure in the amount of matter in an object.

What is MASS?

400

Force that acts between objects that are touching.

What is a CONTACT FORCE?

400

A swan is flying over a pond and poos.  Erin sees it from the edge.

Draw the poo from the swan’s Frame of Reference, and rom Erin’s.

The swan would see its poo go straight down.

Erin would see it go diagonally across the sky, and down.

400

Draw the magnetic lines of a bar magnet.

Pg.55: North arrows should go outward, and South should go inward.

400

This is why weight can change based on gravity.

What is that mass never changes, but weight can when measured throughout the solar system.  Since different planets have different masse, they have different gravitational pulls.  Jupiter has a strong gravitational pull, so you would weigh more, compared to the moon, which is smaller and lighter.

500

Measure of how far an object travels.

What is DISTANCE?

500

When the net force equals zero.

What is BALANCED FORCE, or 0 NEWTONS, or STILL.

500

Larry pushes a pig left with 5N.

Molly pushes the pig right with 11N.

Natasha pushes the pig left with 6N.

Find the Net Force.

Are Forces Balanced?

Net Force=0

Forces are balanced!  11=5+6

500

Sketch how iron filing will scatter around a bar magnet.

Pg.53

500

The dependent variable if 2 balloons are charged positively.

What is DISTANCE?
