-Delusions: fixed beliefs that can’t be changed even when presented with conflicting evidence. Often involves beliefs that they are being harmed or at risk of being harmed by others. Can include thinking people are doing things intentionally at their expense (such as gestures. Comments, etc.)  

-Hallucinations: experiences affecting sensory perceptions. Such as hearing voices, seeing something that isn’t there while awake and outside of a religious experience. 

-Disorganized thinking: individual’s speech isn’t cohesive. Changes topics, inserts words that aren’t related.

Catatonic behavior: decreased reactivity to environment, resists instructions, rigid or bizarre posture, lack of verbal and motor responses 

Negative symptoms (decreases usual behavior): diminished emotional expression less expressive of emotions including facial expressions, emphasis in speech, eye contact,etc. Less motivated, less talkative, less engaged, and lack of interest in social interactions (often first sign)

D. Schizoaffective disorder and depressive  or bipolar disorder with psychotic features have been ruled out because

1. no major depressive or manic episode have occurred/concurred with the current active-phase

 2. if mood episode have occurred, it has been present for a minority of the total duration of the active or residual period
