My name, my real name, is set into the old iron and I turn it over, not wanting to look at it anymore. Crudely written in what looks like black permanent marker is the word “traitor”. I don’t know exactly when I wrote this, but I’m glad that I did in a way. Honestly, I should have thrown the tag away at the same moment I threw my life away. If I had, I wouldn’t be hunted by the deserter police as I am presently. If I had, I would have been declared dead. If I had, I’d have died a coward. But what’s the difference? I’m living as a coward and a traitor.
