RCSA Rockets are...

Respectful, Responsible, Safe :)

100
A student keeps not doing work in class. After two warnings, what does the student get and why?

The student gets a yellow ticket for repeatedly not staying focused and not doing the classwork.

100

Raise your hand! :)

100

100

If you run into a technology problem (ex: your internet isn’t working or your computer is having a problem) what should you do when telling Ms. Nair? (Hint: You need proof)

You have to document the problem by taking a picture or screenshot of your screen

200

During lunch, who should you be sitting next to?

You should be sitting next to whoever you sat next to the day before (you should always sit next to the same person).

200

What are the consequences of getting a yellow ticket? In Ms Nair’s class, what happens when you get a yellow ticket?

The consequences of a yellow ticket are filling our a reflection sheet that is signed and turned in.

in Ms. Nair’s class, we will sit down for a few minutes and brainstorm what went wrong to see if there’s something going on emotionally (youre sad or stressed or scared) or in some other part of your life that we can figure out how to solve together to stop the mistake from happening again.

Student A just raised their hand and answered a question the teacher asked with a completely wrong answer.

Student B burst out laughing and mocked Student A saying, “you really think that? That’s so dumb!” what did Student B do wrong, why is it wrong, and what should they have done instead?

Student B was rude and mean to Student A and could really have hurt student A who was trying (which is what’s important!).

In the process of learning, everyone makes “dumb” mistakes or says incorrect things and it’s important to help correct them without making them feel small.

Instead, Student B should have raised their hand and said, “I think the answer is___”

While working on a project for Computer Applications, you accidentally click on a link that asks for your email to send you $50,000. Do you do it? Why or why not?

I DO NOT do it because that is 100% a scam trying to find information about me. No one is actually giving away 50000 dollars.

200

What does it mean to be reflective and why is it an important part of being a successful learner?

Being reflective means thinking about how you’re feeling and figuring out why you’re feeling that way. It also means that when things go wrong (ex: breaking a rule or doing poorly on an assignment) you take the time to think about why. This is super important for learning because when you think about where things went wrong, you can find the problem you’re having and work on fixing it so you feel better, do better and learn more :)

300

Due to Covid-19, what are 5 rules that are important?

Wear a mask

Social distance

Stay in your classroom

Make sure to stay home if you’re feeling sick

Use hand sanitizer often :)

300

How long does it take for the tickets to reset so you’re back to having no tickets?

9 weeks (half a semester)

300

Although there will be a lot of computer usage in our class, when are you not allowed to use your computers?

When Ms. Nair says to close laptops and pay attention

300

It should be used for class related questions or answers

300

What is our ONE rule about Kahoot?

Always use your first and last names for your nickname

400

A student is running in the hallways and not listening to teachers who tell him to stop. What RCSA rule(s) is he breaking?

He is not being Respectful, Responsible or Safe. By ignoring the teachers, he’s being disrespectful. By not thinking about how he may hurt himself or others he’s being irresponsible. And by putting himself and others in danger he’s being unsafe.

400

Sally gets a purple ticket for being unprepared. What are the things that happen as a result of getting this ticket?

Sally has to have her parents sign the reflection sheet she completes and she gets a lunch detention.

400

If you’re working on a group activity, what are 3 rules you have to follow?

1. Stay focused

2. Be polite and positive

3. Make sure to use quiet voices so that all the groups can hear one another

400

What should you be wearing during an online zoom class? What happens if you do wear something you shouldnt?

School appropriate clothing (this does not include pajamas) such as t shirts with no graphics that are inappropriate. If you wear something you shouldn’t, you are required to wear your student uniform after that.

400

What are the different links on Ms Nair’s RCSA Connect page for?

They are for each of the Computer Applications classes—they do not take you to your 1,2,3 etc. period classes, they take you to the computer applications class :)

500

How do school rules prepare you for life after school? (Please give details)

School rules teach you a lot of the unspoken rules adults should follow in order to create healthy, happy and productive communities.

By learning and following rules on treating other people, public property and how to behave in work situations (or in our case class situations), we become thoughtful and kind citizens who help improve our community.

500

Why do we have the ticket systemm, according to Ms. Bair?

We have the ticket system to help teach you how to reflect on how you’re feeling and how it’s affect your behavior so that you can figure out how to solve the problem you’re having. We also use the ticket system as a way to give you extra outside support so that you don’t have to do everything alone—the ticket system is a mandatory way of teaching you that reaching out when things are hard help you get better faster :)

500

What should you do if you’re having a really hard week or you’re feeling overwhelmed or there’s something very distracting happening in your life and it’s affecting how much you can learn and participate in class? What are Ms. Nair’s expectations when you are going through these things?

You should tell Ms Nair about whats going on so you can come up with a plan together to give you extra time and support and maybe an alternative way to participate.

Ms Nair expects that you still learn and participate to the vest of your ability based on the new plan you created with her. It’s okay if you can’t always do everything I have planned, but I require that you try and work hard to do what you can.

500

When putting content online (posts, comments, etc.) what should you always remember?

Online content is kind of permanent—even if you cant take something down, someone could have screenshotted it or taken a picture with another phone. There could be some wacky feature of the platform you’re using that let’s deleted posts stay online in some form. Always treat online content as there forever, so be careful about what you choose to say.

500

There are a lot of resources online to help you with project work we do during this semester. What should you always keep in mind when working with these resources? What is one way Ms. Nair is gonna make sure you follow this rule?

BONUS: How do you pronounce Ms. Nair’s last name?

You should always give credit to the sources that you use and NEVER directly copy paste code.

Ms Nair will be checking to make sure you did your own work by doing short oral assessments after certain projects. These will involve me asking you questions about your code, the errors you ran into, and questions about what would happen if I changed certain things in your code. If you understand what you did and tried to work it out on your own (with the help of online resources) you will be able to answer the questions :)

BONUS: “Na” (with an “ah” like in Mark) - “yer”
