Yes! At Medical Center Drive 80% of the students receive direct social work services (5 more students will have services, pending approval from LEA).
All students have access to Crisis services.
All Boost students have integrated social work services as part of KTS programming.
All students participate in skills and pragmatics with a social worker.
True or False: Social Workers modify academic curriculum/expectations based on social/emotional needs.
False. This is the teacher's role. The social worker may consult with teaching staff so they can consider how social emotional needs are impacting learning.
How does a social worker decide if a student with social work on their IEP should have pull out services, rather than push in ?
* Pull out sessions are often used to build initial rapport.
* Pull out sessions provide the opportunity for direct teaching of specific skills.
* The social work office is a safe place for students to talk about thoughts/feelings they may want to keep private
What is the difference between integrated and direct services?
Direct services are designated on the IEP/DPG and are for a specific amount of minutes a week.
Integrated services are not driven by IEP/DPG goals. They are push in services designed to support all the students' engagement and regulation in the classroom. Integration services are specific to KTS programs.
True or False: Social workers can replaces a TA during small group learning in the classroom.
False. We can support the students' social emotional needs in small groups and provide consultation with the TA/Teacher, but do not lead small academic groups.
True or False: Everything a student says in a pull out session is kept confidential.
False. If a student makes a statement about hurting themselves, hurting others or being abused; the social worker must break confidentiality.

True or False: If a student is refusing to engage in learning, teaching staff should first call the social worker. Why?
False. They should call if the refusal is related to social/emotoinal needs. Teaching staff should first check for understanding of material, make sure accomadations are in place, use classroom PBIS supports.
Why are social workers always just playing games with the students in their sessions?
*Builds rapprt
*Opportunity to teach perspective taking, working with others, reciprocal interaction skills, managing frustrations, self advocacy - All of this can be addressed in a game of Candy Land!!
If a student makes a statement about hurting themselves, you should write a behavioral referral first and then contact Ms. Connerton or Dr. Aberra.
False. You should immediately contact the Senior Social Worker (don't wait until the end of class or day). If they are not available, then contact Ms. Connerton or Dr. Aberra. Your response to the student should simply be, "I'm going to get someone for you to talk to now."
Why are social workers always changing their schedued meeting times with students?
So many reasons, but primarily because we have a lot of meetings! IEP/DPG meetings, parent meetings, meetings with outside providers, continuing education requirements
