Lack of support from school staff, more time to participate in at-risk behavior, more likely to engage in criminal activity, more likely to be involved w/ police + juvenile justice system
How does prison commissary and rising prices of essential items in prison put stress on the incarcerated individual and their family?
Family may feel more financially spread thin having to support individual, the individual may not have access to essential items and lack in self-care and worser living conditions
How does SES affect an individual's sentencing process?
Lower SES may receive harsher sentences for the same crimes, ineffective legal representation, focus on street crimes which disproportionately affect communities with lower SES
Why are students of color disproportionately affected?
Teacher bias, systemic racism, lack of resources, heavy police presence
How does SES affect the process of an individual getting released from prison?
Difficulty getting a job, finding housing, accessing social support, financial stability (fees or supervision programs)
How are people with low SES disproportionately affected?
Poor school systems, limited opportunity for college, limited job opportunities
