Your friend tells you that if you go outside, you will see an eclipse. You ask him if the eclipse is lunar or solar, but since he did not take Science 8 with Mr. Phillips, he does not know. You, however, remember that when you looked at the moon two days ago, it was in the waxing gibbous phase. What type of eclipse do you realize is occurring?
What is "lunar eclipse"?
- If the moon was in the waxing gibbous phase two days ago, you know it should be a full moon shortly afterwards. Lunar eclipses occur during full moons, and solar eclipses during new moons. Thus, it must be a lunar eclipse occurring outside.
