1. Who is the producer in the image?
The algae
6. What is a consumer?
A species that eats other species
11. How does pollution affect biodiversity?
Decreases it, as it makes living and reproducing more difficult for animals. It can also limit their habitats
16. What does a Carnivore eat?
Meat
2. Who competes for the algae in the image?
The insect and the snail
7. What is a producer?
A species that makes its own food (plants)
12. What is an invasive species?
A species that is introduces onto an environment and typically has an advantage when competing for resources.
17. What does a Herbivore eat?
Plants
3. Who is the top predator in the image?
The Alligator
8. What is the difference between a primary and secondary consumer?
A primary consumer eats a producer. A secondary consumer eats the primary consumer (ex. a fox eats a rabbit. An eagle who eats the fox would be a tertiary consumer)
13. What is overharvesting/overfishing?
Taking of fish, faster than they can reproduce. (meaning they can't recover their numbers)
18. What does a omnivore eat?
Both plants and animals
4. How would you describe a human on the food web?
(Bonus points for both answers)
A consumer and an omnivore
9. A decrease in producers (plants) will do what to the primary consumer(animals)?
They would also decrease in population
14. What is an artificial reef?
A man made structure that provides a habitat (substrate) for coral to grow and fish to live in
19. What will the creation of a dam do to a fish's habitat?
Change/ destroy it, or harm it in another way
5. What does the arrow represent on a food web? And where does the arrow point to? (To the consumer or the prey?)
The flow of energy, and it points to the one doing the eating
10. Define or give an example of competition
2 animals that compete for the same resource (Ex. a fox and a coyote will compete for a rabbit)
15 Why is runoff bad?
It takes nutrients from fertilizers on farms and dumps them into the ocean, causing an algal bloom which will remove the oxygen from the water
20. Why is it beneficial for a plant to grow taller?
They can reach more sunlight. In a forest plants compete for sunlight, as if they are too short they will be covered in the shadows of taller trees.
