In what form does light travel?

In waves (NM also accepted)

100

Are gas molecules larger or smaller than light wavelengths?

Smaller

When we see a blue sky, we are seeing...

blue light scattering across the atmosphere

200

What color(s) have the shortest wave lengths?

Blue & Violet

200

What color(s) have the longest wave lengths?

Red & Orange

200

What determines how light interacts with the Earth's atmosphere?

(varying) amounts of energy

300

When colors are mixed, what color light do our eyes perceive it as?

White Light

300

What scatters sunlight across Earth's atmosphere?

Gas molecules

300

The upper part of the atmosphere absorbs what color?

The upper atmosphere absorbs violet light.

400

Why don't we see violet?

(1)The sun produces less violet light. (2)Our eyes are much better at detecting blue.

400

the shorter the wave of the blue light, the more the gas...

Scatters across the atmosphere

What does NM stand for in regards to wavelength?

nanometer

500

What is Rayleigh Scattering

the scattering of light by particles that are much smaller than the wavelength of the light.

Why does the sky appear red during sunset?

light is passing through more of the Earth’s atmosphere to reach us. So all the blue light gets scattered away before it reaches us and the red, orange, and yellow waves passes through. This is why sunsets often appear red even though the Sun itself isn't changing color.

Does yellow or green have a longer wavelength?

Yellow (600 NM to 500 NM)
