I just chopped a carrot. What type of change is this?

Physical change!

100

What is the unit used to measure heart rate?

Beats per minute (BPM)

100

What happened visually when water was added to a ring of skittles?

The colour of the skittles spread out in the water.
100

What was the first lab that we did in Science Club?

S'mores lab!

100

Chemical formula for water?

H2O

200

When a piece of wood is burned, it transforms into ash, smoke, and gases. This process is an example of a ___________ change.

Chemical change.

200

During physical exercise, what happens to your heart rate as your intensity of activity increases?

Your heart rate increases

200

Our skittles lab demonstrates what kind of science process?

Diffusion.

200

What did you learn from the build-your-own-marshmallow-skittle-sandwich lab?

How to write a lab procedure.

200

What is the product of cellular respiration?

(All animal breath it OUT!)

Carbon dioxide

CO2

300

What is the difference between a physical and chemical change?

Physical change alters the appearance or state of a substance without changing its chemical composition, while chemical changes creates new substances.

300

Why does your heart rate increase during physical activity?

The body increases demand for oxygen and nutrients.

300

How did the diffusion in hot water compare to that in room temperature water?

The colors spread faster in hot water.

300

What room are we in?

Room 320

300

What is the definition of evolution?

Process which populations of living organisms change overtime/generations.

400

How can you tell that a marshmallow burning is a chemical change?

When a marshmallow burns it gives off a new smell, smoke, and a change in colour or texture, indicating a chemical reaction.

400

What is one reason why athletes might have a lower resting heart rate than an average person?

Athletes' hearts pump blood more effectively.

400

Why did the colors from the Skittles spread out in the water?

The colour molecules from the Skittles spread out because they move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration in the water.

400

How many labs have we done in Science Club?

6 Labs!

400

What is the name of this molecule: C₆H₁₂O₆?

Hint: Our cells break it down to produce energy & we need it to survive!

Glucose

This molecule is used by the cell to produce energy in the form of ATP

No glucose = No ATP = 💀

A substance undergoes a change in which it alters its state, such as from a solid to a liquid, but its chemical composition remains the same. This type of change is called a _______________ change. Provide one example.

Physical change.
Example: Ice into water

500

Which heart rate measurement is commonly used to determine your exercise intensity during a workout?

A) Resting heart rate
B) Target heart rate
C) Maximum heart rate
D) Blood pressure

B) Target heart rate

500

Why does the temperature of the water affect the rate of diffusion of the Skittles’ color?

Higher temperature causes molecules to move faster, increasing the rate of diffusion.

500

What are our names and what grade are we in?

Esther (12), Karis (12), Ophelia (12), Jason (11)

Extra challenge question!

When we hit a fly on the highway at extremely high speeds, the car doesn't break. But if we hit a metal ball it will.

Why? (Hint: Think of Newton's laws)

Newtons third law states: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So, the fly on impact, hits the car with the same force (very weak). But a metal ball with hit the car much harder, as much as the car hits the ball.

If you punch a friends face, the face hits your hand with the same force your hand hits the face.
