What is the male part of a flower?

The Stamen

100

What is pollination?

Pollen moving from the stamen to the pistil

100

A life cycle is...

a series of stages all living things go through.

100

The bright colored part that attracts pollinators.

the petals

100

What is a healthy diet for the digestive system?

Starchy foods, vegetables and fruit should make up the bulk of meals. All of those contain the most fibre, which is an important part of a healthy diet.

100

What are scientific adaptations?

Adaptation is defined as the process where a species or an organism gradually becomes better acclimated to its environment.

200

What is the female part of a flower?

The Pistil

200

What are the three ways a plant can be pollinated?

Wind, water, and pollinators.

200

Seed dispersal is...

the transport of seeds away from the parent plant

200

Created when pollen reaches the top of the pistil.

the pollen tube

200

What is digestion?

Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food compounds into small water-soluble components so that they can be absorbed into the blood plasma.

How are plants adapted in a hot and dry environment?

Plants: They have found different ways to store water, either in their roots, stems, or leaves, and use it when required:

  • Thick waxy cuticles- Unlike those with porous leaves, desert plants like Cactus have thick waxy cuticles which help them in reducing transpiration (the process of releasing water from the leaves to the air).
  • Plants like Pineapple, Agave, and others keep their stomata closed during the day and open in the night when the temperature is low to take in CO2 and at the time of sunrise, they release it.
  • Leaves into Spines- Some plants have leaves modified into spines to reduce the surface area and prevent loss of water due to transpiration.
300

What is one part of the pistil?

The stigma, style, and/or ovary.

300

What is fertilization?

When the pollen combine with the egg

300

Living things do this unknowingly.

pollinate flowers

300

The sticky part that collects pollen from the pollinators.

the stigma

300

Which other animals do have a similar digestive system?

Vertebrates are a group of animals that includes fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds. All vertebrates have a complete digestive system with a similar design.

300

How are animals adapted in a hot and dry environment?

Animals like Kangaroo Rat are majorly dependent on dry seeds for their diet and don’t even require extra water intake. Their source of water is the metabolized activity of the seeds they consume.

400

What is the job of the sepal?

To protect the flower before it blooms

400

Germination happens when...

the seed sprouts under ground

400

Three ways living things disperse seeds are...

In their droppings, attaching to fur/fabric, and burying seeds

400

Provides support in the stamen

the filament

400

How long does it take to digest food?

Between 12 hours and 3 days...

400

What adaptions do predators have?

Their mechanical adaptations such as sharp teeth, claws, thick skin and faster speed and superior strength help them to take over the prey. The chemical adaptations include venom, toxins and poison to kill the prey.

500

Where are the seeds made?

In the ovary.

500

The four methods of seed dispersal are...

wind, water, living things, and explosion

500

The two types of seeds transported by wind.

Light/feathery and winged

Dandelion and Maple seeds

500

Produces the pollen

the anther

500

How does the digestive system work?

The system starts at the mouth. The mouth connects via a tube, called the esophagus, to the stomach. The stomach is usually an acidic environment where food is broken down into smaller molecules. These molecules then travel to the small intestine where most of the nutrients are absorbed. What remains then travels to the large intestine where water and salts are absorbed and wastes are readied for removal.

500

What adaptions do prey have?

Camouflage, highly developed senses, warning signals, and different defensive weapons and behaviours are all used by prey animals for survival.
