A giant panda will consume anywhere between 12 and 38 kg of bamboo per day. But the woods in which bamboo plants grow are threatened. Humans cut down bamboo forests to create roads and farms, which results in habitat loss for giant pandas. This habitat loss also makes it difficult for giant pandas to find mates. In addition to this, a small number of pandas are accidentally killed in hunting traps intended for deer. Fewer than 5,000 giant pandas currently remain in the wild.
