What is weathering?

Weathering is the breaking down and changing of rocks.

100

What is erosion?

Erosion is the transportation of sediments

100

What is Deposition?

Deposition is when the eroded materials are dropped.

Name 1 one layer of the Earth

Sample Answer: The Inner Core

100

Name 1 planet

Sample Answer: Earth

200

Name one type of weathering

Physical and/or Chemical

200

Name 2 agents of erosion

Sample Answer: Wind and Water

200

Name 2 agents of Deposition

Sample Answer: Ice and Water

200

How many layers are there?

6(crust, upper mantle, middle mantle, lower mantle, outer core, inner core)

200

What is the most famous dwarf planet?

Pluto

300

What is Physical weathering?

The breakdown of rocks into sediments without changing their composition

300

How does wind, water, ice, and gravity cause erosion?

Water erodes as it flows above ground through streams or underground through spaces in rocks. Wind erodes as it blows over surfaces and lifts or pushes sediments. Glaciers move like a conveyor belt, eroding soil, sediments, and rocks. Gravity is what causes landsides and waterfalls. Each of those both bring sediments into a new place.

300

How does Water cause Deposition?

Water carries sediments. When water loses its energy, it drops the sediments, causing deposition.

300

True or False: The crust is the thickest layer

False

400

What is chemical weathering?

The altering of rocks as a result of exposure to different substances

400

How does erosion play a role in shaping the earth's surface?

Erosion moves sediments, soil, and rocks. Erosion can flatten a mountaintop.

400

How does Deposition help shape the earth's surface?

Deposition is when rocks are dropped. More rocks in a new area can make a place look completely different.

400

How thin is the Earth's crust?

15 to 20km or 9 to 12mi

500

Name two examples of physical weathering and two examples of chemical weathering

Sample Answer: Physical- Ice wedging and Exfoliation Chemical- Oxidation and Carbonation

500

How is Erosion related to Deposition?

Sample Answer: Erosion brings sediments to a new area. When dropped, it causes deposition.

500

The breaking down and changing of rocks.

Weathering

How hot is the Earth's core?

4400 Celsius or 7952 Fahrenheit( at least)
