What are all the states of matter?
Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma
What are the layers of the Earth in order?
Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core
How many types of crust make up the lithosphere.
2, Oceanic Crust and Continental Crust
What is groundwater?
Water that is stored in the ground/underneath the Earth's surface.
What determines the state of matter of particles?
The speed at which they move and how much space they move in.
There are an abundance of Oxygen and Silicon in one of the Earth's layer. Which layer is this?
The Crust
What are the large moving sections of the lithosphere called?
Tectonic Plates
After the seed has started early sprouting, what MUST happen next?
The plant must start growing roots downward for stability and to extract water and minerals from underground.
Evaporation is the process of water being heated from lakes and rivers during the water cycle. What happens to the water molecules during this process?
The water molecules become unconnected and start spreading through the air. In short, the particles turn from a liquid to a gaseous state.
What happens to particles as they transition from a liquid to a solid.
They lose energy and move slower causing them to be closer together forming strong bonds.
There is an abundance of Iron and Nickel in which layer of the Earth? What is a fact we know about this layer?
The inner core and its heat is comparable to the surface of the sun.
Explain how ridge push and slab pull occur.
When magma is pushing up on the Earth's surface, the land creates a ridge and then the magma cools and becomes new crust this process of the magma pushing up the land is called ridge push. When this occurs, there are old crust that are pulled down by gravity and the magma which is called slab pull.
Explain what happens during the process of photosynthesis.
Plants/flowers take sunlight as energy and convert it into glucose/sugar which fuels growth and developments in the plant or flower.
Which number represents the water table?
Number 4
There are three thing about a certain amount of liquid that never changes, what are these things?
Mass, Volume, and Density
Underneath the lithosphere is the asthenosphere where convection currents occur. Explain what convection currents are?
The process of hot magma flowing upwards, getting cooler and cycling back down towards the Earth's core.
What is the name of the process above.
The process of subduction where one plate goes above the other is occurring. The red dot marks the point of convergence.
What are 3 ways the process of pollination could occur?
Human pollination
Wind pollination
Animal pollination
Self-Pollination
Water pollination
What is the difference between runoff and surface runoff?
Runoff includes water that is flowing towards the lakes, rivers, and oceans from all over the planet whereas surface runoff is only the water that flows from above the ground or from the "SURFACE" of the Earth.
What are all the processes of moving from a given state of matter to another?
solid <=> Liquid Solid => Gas
Liquid <=> Gas XTRA POINTS Gas =>Solid
solid <=> Liquid Solid => Gas
Melting/Freezing Sublimation
Liquid <=> Gas XTRA POINTS Gas =>Solid
Evaporation/Condensation Deposition
What is the name of the location where convection currents occur?
Asthenosphere.
What is the difference between transform and convergence? What is the difference between subduction and divergence?
Transform is the process where two plates slide past each other which usually results in earthquakes and volcanic activity. The two plates coming towards is other is the definition of them converging. Subduction is the process where one plate moves under another causing new landforms to be created. Divergence is the process of two plates moving away from each other.
What are the 3 environmental factors that affect the germination of seeds.
Sunlight/Heat, Oxygen, Water/Rain
