What is an experiment called if you make sure to only change the variable that you are testing and keep everything else the same?

Example:  If I want to test to see if giving plants soda affects their height, I would keep everything else the same - pot, soil, amount of sunlight, same amount of water, type of plant, and so on. The only thing I would change is that some plants would get soda and some would not.
