Lesson 2 Review
100
This is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place PG 351
What is the weather
100
What instrument measures air temperature? pg 352
What is a barometer
100
This measures wind speed pg 354
What is an anemometer
100
What organization collects and analyzes weather data?
National Weather Service
200
What is air temperature measured with? pg 351
What is a thermometer
200
What is humidity?
The amount of water vapor in the air.
200
This finds wind direction pf 354
What is a wind vane
200
How is a cold front different from a warm front?
A cold front is a cold air mass pushing into and under a warm air mass. A warm front is a warm air mass gliding up ans over a cold air mass. Both fronts are boundaries of air masses that ofter produce precipitation.
300
What are the stwo scales used to measure temperature? pg 351
Fahrenheit and Celsius
300
The amount of water vapor in the air compared to its capacity is called... pg 353
Relative humidity
300
This measures the amount of precipitation that falls to earth pg 355
What is a rain gague.
300
What is the difference betewwn a high and a low?
A high is an area of high pressure that results in fair weather and causes air to move outward in a clockwise position. A low is an area of low pressure, with warm air moving inward conterclockwise. Lows aofen have clouds and precipitation.
400
Explain how a thermometer works? 351
When the weather is warm, the alcohol in the thermometer expands, thus rising. When the weather is cold, the alcohol in the theremometer contracts, thus falls.
400
What kind of weather will we have when the air pressure drops? pg 352
This usually means precipitation
400
Why does air pressure drop as you go higher in the atmosphere? pg 352
There is less air to press on objects at higher altitudes, so the air pressure drops.
400
What are isobars?
Lines used on a weather map that connect areas of equal pressure.
500
The force of air pushing againist objects is called... pg 352
What is air pressure
500
What kind of weather will we have when the air pressure rises? pg 353
Usually drier weather and clear skies.
500
What is the service that collects data on weather? Pg 357
What is The National Weather Service
500
What is lightning?
An electric current passing between negative and positive charges.
