Observation: the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information.
Inference: the process of inferring something.
Hypothesis: a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Prediction: the action of predicting something.
Scientific theory: a carefully thought-out explanation for observations of the natural world that has been constructed using the scientific method, and which brings together many facts and hypotheses.
Scientific law: the description of an observed phenomenon.

The dependent variable is what you measure, and can be thought of as the effect. It follows the then in a hypothesis. Constants are all of the other factors that must remain the same so that the only systematic difference is the independent variable.
