Types of Science
Scientist
a person who is studying or has expert knowledge of one or more types of science.
Hypothesis
An educated guess or prediction based on our research/understanding of a topic we are exploring. Part of the
scientific process is to help us think about why something might happen.
Data
facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis.
Molecules
The smallest unit of an element or compound made up of two or more atoms held together by a strong
chemical bond.
Chemistry
The science that deals with properties of matter and how matter interacts with energy.
Control
A control is something in an experiment that is going to stay the same. A control is used to monitor what is
happening in the experiment
Qualitative data
Information that we collect during an experiment that involves descriptions using words, such as a colour
change. This is an observation that is difficult to put into numbers.
Experiment
a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
Astronomy
the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole.
Variable
Any item, factor, or condition that can be controlled or changed in an experiment.
Quantitative data
Information that involves using numbers, measurements, or statistics, such as taking temperature readings or measuring distances traveled.
Observations
the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information.
