The area of a plant through which water and minerals move is the__________.

Xylem

The bones of the __________ help give the body shape and structure. The skull is a part of this system.

Skeletal system

The outside layer of a plant cell.

Cell wall

Leaves make food through the process of ___________.

The chemical in plants that causes the leaves to appear green is called ____________.

Photosynthesis

Chlorophyll

200

Organisms can be classified into groups. Which group is the most specific?

Species

Xylem and phloem in a plant stem are produced in the _________.

Cambium

What works together to form tissues?

Cells

300

Two ways to group living things into a ________________ are by internal form and structure.

What is a vascular plant?

Vascular plants have tubes that carry water and nutrients from one part of a plant to another. Vascular plants can grow very tall.

300

What is the branch like structure in the lungs called? What are the bubble like end of that called?

Bronchi

alveoli

300

What is the "brain" of a cell?

Nucleus

400

What are the 3 levels of cellular organization in animals with examples? And what is the final result?

Tissues -muscles

Organs- heart

Organ systems- circulatory system

Organism- rabbit

400

An amoeba, a giant squid, and an oak tree can each be described as a(n) _________.

Organism

400

What is a nonvascular plant?

Nonvascular plants do not have tubes and do not grow tall because they need to be close to the ground to soak up water.

400

An animal that has hair, a big brain, is warm-blooded and lays eggs is what?

Monotreme

400

What does chlorophyll do?

Absorb sunlight

500

What are the differences between plant and animal cells? (food, structure, energy)

Plant cells make their own food using chlorophyll in the chloroplasts, while animal cells can not. Plant cells have a central (large) vacuole and cell wall around the cell membrane to give the cell more support. Plant cells only depend on sunlight for energy but animal cells require other animal cells or plant cells for energy.

A living thing that is _______ does not have a definite shape.

The body plan of coral is ______________.

Asymmetrical

Asymmetrical

Plants with soft stems often grow in the same area as plants with woody stems. During a thunderstorm which is more likely to be damaged? Why?

Plants with woody stems are more likely to be damaged because they grow taller and may be struck by lightning. Plants with soft stems bend more easily than plants with woody stems, so they are not as likely to be broken or uprooted by the wind.

An animal that has hair, a big brain, is warm-blooded and does not lay eggs. It gives birth to live offspring, which it carries in a pouch is what type of animal.

An animal that lays eggs and has feathers is what?

Marsupial

Bird

What organelle is found in plant cells but not animal cells?

Chloroplasts
