The allegory of the cave refers to how people's understanding of reality is shaped by their experience. Ergo, if you place prisoners within a cave and all they can see is their shadow on a wall, they will see those shadows as reality. Once leaving the cave they would be overwhelmed by the beauty of extended reality and would never be able to return.
