Fill in the blank: St. John the Baptist called Jesus “The ____ of God who takes away the sin of the world!”. (John 1:29).

Therefore the priest examines the loaves of bread to choose a “lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:19) as he stands at the foot of the altar facing the west.

Where do the church rites come from?

What was the purpose of rites in the Old testaments?

Rites in the biblical context refer to the prescribed religious ceremonies and practices that are observed by the people of God as acts of worship, obedience, and remembrance. These rites are deeply rooted in the covenantal relationship between God and His people, serving as tangible expressions of faith and devotion.

Which new testament author in the bible instructs people to “greet one another with a holy kiss”?

The Holy Apostolic Greeting is the oldest of all Eucharistic rituals and was called “Apostolic” because it was instructed to us by the apostles. St. Paul mentioned it multiple times; Romans 16:16 “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” 1 Corinthians 16:20 “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” 2 Corinthians 13:12 “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” 1 Thessalonians 5:26 “Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.” St. Peter also mentioned it in 1 Peter 5:14 “Greet one another with a kiss of love.”

Fill in the Blank:

In the Commemoration of the Saints in the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil, it states that "...this is the command of Your Only-Begotten Son, that we share in the commemoration of Your ____."

Hebrews 13:7, "Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith."

How did people hear the Word of God and learn about scripture before the Bible was fully compiled?

For people to learn about the Holy Scripture, the only source they had was to come to church and listen to the scripture through liturgy.

Acts 2:42 describes the early church: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers".

When in the liturgy do we hear:

`Many prophets and righteous men have desired to see the things which you see and have not seen them and to hear the things which you hear and have not heard them. But blessed are your eyes for they see and your ears for they hear'." (Matt.13:16-17).

Prior to the Gospel.

This quote states that certain facts of the Gospel were revealed to a few of the righteous men of the Old Testament who earnestly desired to see and behold the Word of God but could not.

Why was the liturgy recorded/documented?

To preserve the truth

What do we say/pray 3 times after the prayer of reconciliation?

As we praise the Lord with the word `Holy' we join the Cherubim and Seraphim as they cry to one another saying, "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of His Glory" (Is.6:3). The angels' praise centres around the word `Holy' as it glorifies God.
