What is the difference between Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and Hazardous Waste (HW)?
• HAZARDOUS MATERIAL – A material that is harmful to the environment such as paint, cleaners, acids, glues, or other flammables. • HAZWASTE – A product generated from a process that once completed, the product can no longer be used to meet its originally intended purpose. HAZMAT which has exceeded its shelf-life is also considered HAZWASTE.

WHAT ARE THE ABCs OF BASIC LIFE SUPPORT?
During the primary survey, you should be concerned with what are referred to as the ABCs of emergency care: airway, breathing, and circulation.
100
WHAT IS COMMAND AND CONTROL?

Define Risk
Risk is defined as an expression of possible loss, adverse outcome, or negative consequences such as injury, illness in terms of probability, and severity.

WHAT ARE THE SIX CATEGORIES OF HAZMAT?
• Aerosols • Compressed gases • Oxidizing materials • Toxic or poisonous materials • Flammable and combustible materials • Corrosive materials (such as strong acids and alkalis)

WHAT ARE THE THREE TYPES OF BLEEDING AND THEIR DESCRIPTION?
• Capillary - blood is usually brick red in color. When capillaries are cut, the blood oozes out slowly. • Veinous – Blood from the veins is dark red. When a vein is cut, the blood escapes in a steady flow. • Arterial - When an artery near the surface is cut, the blood gushes out in spurts that are synchronized with heart beats; but if the cut artery is deeply buried, the bleeding appears in a steady stream. Arterial blood is usually bright red in color.

WHAT ARE THE S-CODES AND THEIR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES?
• S1 Department - Responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring NMCB’s administrative and personnel support including: processing correspondence, creating travel orders, managing instructions, assisting with legal affairs, supporting public affairs. • S2 Department - Principally focused on providing intelligence support to operations, battalion intelligence specialists are critical advisors to assist in reducing risk, critical vulnerabilities, and the dissemination of the adversary’s intentions. • S3 Department - Has functional authority over battalion construction and disaster preparedness programs; is responsible for establishing the battalion’s defense; construction resource assignments, including personnel, equipment, tools, and materials. It controls the project planning process; engineering and quality control. • S4 Department - Provides financial management of the battalion’s budget, as well as managing Automotive Repair Parts (ARP), Central Tool Room (CTR), and Material Liaison Office (MLO). Service functions include the operation of the general mess, disbursing, postal, barbershop, berthing, and messing functions. Provides management of the assigned TOA exclusive of CESE, weapons, and communications equipment. • S6 Department - Issues and maintains NMCB tactical communications equipment and computer assets and is responsible for training the communications platoon. • S7 Department - Responsible for: Command indoctrination, Seabee Combat Warfare qualification, Specialized Construction Battalion (SCBT) schools, Formal schools, GMT, Physical readiness, and Weapons, armory and ordinance management.

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS THAT LED TO THE CREATION OF THE SEABEES?
As World War II drew near, there was an urgent need for more overseas bases. Airfields and landing strips had to be rushed into existence on far away islands. Clearly, we needed a combat MILITARY ORGANIZATION trained to construct these advance bases. Even before the outbreak of hostilities, the Bureau of Yards and Docks had conceived the idea of naval construction battalions. The first construction units were organized early in January 1942. Highly skilled construction workers were recruited, and whole construction companies volunteered men and equipment.

What is the five step process of ORM?
1. Identify the hazard 2. Assess the hazard 3. Make risk decisions 4. Implement controls 5. Supervise
300
WHAT ARE THE GENERAL PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED WHEN A HAZARDOUS MATERIAL/HAZARDOUS WASTE (HM/HW) SPILL OCCURS OR IS DISCOVERED?
The unit must respond immediately with an approved response team, equipment, and disposal plan. Reports must be made and tests conducted to ensure no contamination remains. Disposal of contaminated soils, etc. must follow strict guidelines.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS FOR A SUCKING CHEST WOUND?
Victims with open chest wounds gasp for breath, have difficulty breathing out, and may have a bluish skin color to their face. Frothy-looking blood may bubble from the wound during breathing.
