What are some of the purposes of the Department of Social Services when called to the PEDS ED.

                                                       


    

To evaluate care of a minor, to transfer the minor to responsible care providers, Review of security measures will be initiated for a pediatric patient in which there is a custody disputes, abuse or any other circumstance that might increase the risk of abduction or quality of life.

Search of a visitor or family member may only be conducted by consent.

Consent to search will only be requested when the patient care team has reasonable suspicion to believe that the visitor is concealing prohibited/ restricted items.   Nursing will not conduct the search of the visitor/non-patient. What should you do if consent if refused or withdrawn?                  
                        

                                   


    

Stop the search. 

The patient care team, in consultation with Security personnel, may prohibit visitation by those persons reasonably suspected of concealing/supplying restricted items. If asked to leave, and the person/s refuse, trespass should be considered.
