What fruit were students traditionally known bring their teachers?

Apples!

Today, it might seem odd to give a teacher an apple, but in the 19th century, it was common practice. Traditional thinking connected “The Tree of Knowledge” from the Bible as being an apple tree. Since teachers are to be knowledgeable on many subjects, students would give them apples. Students’ families also would give their teachers food as a way to support them as schools back then weren’t funded by the government.

In what month does Fall begin in the United States?

September

Fall starts in September for the Northern Hemisphere because of the autumnal equinox around September 22 or 23, when Earth's axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun, causing day and night to be of equal length. Alternatively, meteorological fall begins on September 1, following a convention based on historical temperature cycles rather than the Earth's precise astronomical position.

This graceful and slow two-person dance was first introduced in the mid-19th century and was greatly popularized by the music of the famous composer Johann Strauss. Today this dance represents the gold standard and is the most famous dance in ballrooms worldwide.

Waltz

A highly popular ballroom dance evolved from the Ländler in the 18th century. Characterized by a step, slide, and step in 3/4 time, the waltz, with its turning, embracing couples, at first shocked polite society. It became the ballroom dance par excellence of the 19th century, however, and tenaciously maintained its popularity in the 20th. Its variations include the rapid, whirling Viennese waltz and the gliding, dipping Boston. Composers of famous waltzes include Frédéric Chopin, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and Johann Strauss and his sons, especially Johann Strauss the Younger, who was known as “the Waltz King.”

True or False: Two peanut farmers have been elected president of the United States.

True!

Two peanut farmers have been elected president of the USA – Virginia's Thomas Jefferson and Georgia's Jimmy Carter. Peanuts grow underneath the soil, connected to the roots of the peanut plant. To harvest the crop, a harvester machine pulls up the entire plant, farmers remove the peanuts from the roots, and then leave the plants behind to act as a natural compost for the soil. Former President Bill Clinton also said one of his favorite sandwiches is peanut butter and banana; also reported to have been the favorite of Elvis “the King” Presley.

True or False: The vast majority of teachers are women.

True!

Education is one of the largest occupational fields in the country, with over 5.5 million Americans working as kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers. As of data from 2018, 76% of teachers are female. Looking beyond the classroom, over half of school principals are women, while only 30 years ago, nearly two-thirds of public schools — at the elementary, middle, and high-school level — were headed by men.

True or False: Pumpkins are a vegetable.

False! They are a fruit because they come from the flowers of their plant and have seeds inside.

A pumpkin, from a botanist's perspective, is a fruit because it's a product of the seed-bearing structure of flowering plants. Vegetables, on the other hand, are the edible portion of plants such as leaves, stems, roots, bullbs, flowers, and tubers.

b. 3 million

c. 5 million

Great teachers do it all. Across all ages, languages, ethnicities, and subjects, teachers are some of the most widely skilled people around in order to be successful. A day in the life of a teacher can vary greatly depending on the subject and grade level in which they teach. From Kindergarten to high school and special education to statistics, one theme runs consistently throughout every great teacher’s career: their job does not end with the school day. Although standing in front of the classroom is a huge part of a teacher’s responsibilities, they extend far beyond that into the lives of their students, their students’ families and their community.

Cinnamon is also available in powdered form.

Among many types of popular dances around the world, this dance may be one of the most unusual dances. Instead of focusing on body movements and dancing with a partner, it is characterized by the creation of percussion-like musically-focused rhythm performance using shoes striking on the floor in accordance with the dancing music.

Tap Dance

Tap originated in the United States through the fusion of several ethnic percussive dances, primarily West African sacred and secular step dances (gioube) and Scottish, Irish, and English clog dances, hornpipes, and jigs. Until the last few decades of the 20th century, it was believed that enslaved Africans and Irish indentured servants had observed each other’s dances on Southern plantations and that tap dancing was born from this contact. In the late 20th century, however, researchers suggested that tap instead was nurtured in such urban environments as the Five Points District in New York City, where a variety of ethnic groups lived side by side under crowded conditions and in constant contact with the distinctly urban rhythms and syncopations of the machine age.

In a high pressure environment, peanut butter can be turned into what?

Diamonds!

Scientist Dan Frost realized that peanut butter contains one of the main ingredients for diamonds - carbon. In fact, all organic matter on Earth contains carbon.  Frost knew that processes in the upper mantle stripped carbon from sunken rocks to create diamonds. That’s where he got the idea to strip carbon from peanut butter to make his own. The process was messy. However, at the end of it, Frost had used heat and pressure in his lab to turn carbon from peanut butter into diamonds! Will peanut butter diamonds replace natural diamonds in jewelry? That’s unlikely. Labs across the world already produce man-made diamonds, and their process is much less messy than Frost’s.

What event happens at the end of fall, causing clocks to be set back?

Daylight Saving Time Ends

“The biggest misconception is that it was Ben Franklin’s idea,” says Peter Geiger, editor of the Farmers’ Almanac. While Franklin is often credited with inventing the concept of daylight saving time as we know it, he merely suggested that Parisians wake up earlier to save money on lamp oil and candles in a satirical essay published in the Journal de Paris in 1784. Another misconception? That the practice originated to benefit farmers. In fact, the agricultural industry lobbied against daylight saving time after it was introduced in the United States. Many farmers continue to oppose the practice, which can disrupt farmwork. For example, dairy cows expect to be milked at the same hour each day — regardless of what the clock says.

This Latin dance is among the most popular in Latin America, North America, Europe, and Australia. It is a sensual form, energetic movement, and innovative choreography that Mambo, Changuyi, and Rumba influenced and made popular worldwide.

Salsa

Salsa dancing has an intricate and debated history that very much mirrors the development of its counterpart, salsa music. The term “salsa” was created in New York in the 1960’s and is now used to describe both the popular style of music and it’s matching dance. Salsa, meaning “sauce,” conveys feelings of spicing things up and enlivening the moment. As musicians from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and South America came to New York to perform, they collaborated their native musical styles. They also incorporated in American Jazz influences. These musicians traveled back and forth between their home countries and New York with their newfound musical fusion hence generating different styles of salsa music in different places.

What are the top three most difficult schools to get into in the United States?

Caltech, Harvard and Stanford University

The American college admissions process continues to be insanely competitive at the very top. Schools that are considered “elite” and “prestigious” are attracting more applicants than ever before. Test-optional policies enacted by many colleges at the start of the pandemic have caused tens of thousands of new applicants to throw their names in the hat at Ivy and Ivy-equivalent schools. In other words, the hardest colleges to get into have never had so many people wanting to “get in”.

Why do leaves change color in the fall?

What colors do they usually turn?

A lack of chlorophyll from less direct sunlight as the days get shorter.

Most of the year, these leaves are green because of the chlorophyll they use to absorb energy from sunlight during photosynthesis. The leaves convert the energy into sugars to feed the tree. As the season changes, temperatures drop and days get shorter. Trees get less direct sunlight, and the chlorophyll in the leaves breaks down. The lack of chlorophyll reveals yellow and orange pigments that were already in the leaves but masked during the warmer months. Darker red leaves are the result of a chemical change: Sugars that can get trapped in the leaves produce new pigments (called anthocyanins) that weren’t part of the leaf in the growing season. Some trees, like oaks and dogwoods, are likely to produce red leaves.

One of the most athletic dances in the world, this dance originally found its popularity in the 1970s as the street dance in the New York’s Bronx. Since then it has spread all around the world where it was viewed as one of the most unique dance styles ever made. Usually danced solo, this dance requires talented dancers to perform the series of either choreographed or freeform dance and athletic movements.

Breakdancing

Break dancing is largely improvisational, made up of variations of “standard” moves or steps, including freezes, powermoves, downrock, and toprock. The emphasis is on energy, movement, creativity, humour, and an element of danger. It is meant to convey the rough world of the city streets from which it is said to have sprung. It is also associated with a particular style of dress that includes baggy pants or sweat suits, baseball caps worn sideways or backward, and sneakers (required because of the dangerous nature of many of the moves).

What ingredient causes cookies to rise?

Baking Powder

The type of leavening you use in your cookies doesn't just help them rise while baking, it affects their texture and structure too. Baking soda in cookies yields a denser cookie with craggy tops, while baking powder causes cookies to rise higher during baking for a cakier texture.
