This vivid nonhuman was the first character I made the majority of the cosplay for. Rather than recreating a canon outfit, this cosplay was an interpretation of what I thought she would wear as a human.

Pinkie Pie

My obsession with the movie this character is from has waned —even though the world's has not— enough for me to second guess including her in my cosplans. She isn't my favorite of the trio, just the design I thought would be most fun and challenging to make. Maybe I just enjoy cosplaying girls with long braids, sue me.

Most of the characters from her anime of origin have been purged from my cosplanner, but this singular magical girl remains due to her being my favorite of the quintet. After all, not cosplaying her would be stupid. So stupid.

Sayaka Miki

This common waste product can be used as a connector for collapsible props, or for wig styles such as ponytails and twin-tails. Reduce, reuse and recycle!

What do you have to do at the start and end of every line you sew?

Reverse/backstitch

The cosplay I made my first corset for. Though it is currently unfinished, I plan to make a new skirt and barefoot shoes, and upgrade my wig before taking her to CCE next summer.

Ariel

This magical girl's hairstyle would have been a pain in the neck to recreate. Though one character from this anime has remained on my cosplanner, this character was not so lucky.

Mami Tomoe

A variant of my favorite video game character, and my all time favorite circle. This specific variant is being interpreted as a jester/clown due to the hat he wears while using this power.

Beam Kirby

Need something to stick to a wig like its life depends on it? Need an armor piece or prop to defy gravity? With the right strength, this small tool can do it all!

Magnets

Why are you not supposed to sew over pins?

You could break a needle

Two cosplays for (mostly) the price of one! The only thing I had to do for this character was get a bit creative to make sure I wasn't poisoning myself with the new prop. It's harder than you think to find food safe paint sealant.

Genocide Jill/Jack/Syo

I started two cosplays from this video game and never finished either of them. Fortunately for me, that action won't have consequences. These two best friends may stay trapped in cosplay limbo for the rest of time, but at least there's a couple of photos of me in a closet cosplay of one to remember them by.

Life is Strange (Max Caulfield and Chloe Price)

A character who is as dangerous as she is inventive. Crafting this cosplay will be a daunting task. Not only will I have to sew the outfit and all of its numerous details; The wig will be also be labor intensive wig, as it is a lace front and will need added length

Jinx

This technique adds volume and texture to wig fibers, making styling (like adding spikes) easier. It also has the added benefit of reducing tangles and shine.

Crimping

What is the most common material for all purpose thread to be made from?

Polyester

An iconic vocaloid song was the source of this outfit, which was my first completed cosplay. Me and my partner for this cosplay really need to rendezvous again soon.

Matryoshka (Gumi)

I bit off a bit more than I could chew with this cosplan. The costume itself wouldn't have been difficult, but considering it was originally a couple's costume and I was no longer part of a couple, portraying this character was no longer what I wanted. Thank the Lords I don't need to wear that wig, at least.

Nibblenephim/Nibbly

One of my dream cosplays, though completing it requires me teaching myself how to make and wear wings.

This wig styling practice is commonly used to create twin-tail styles, high ponytails, or buns. It reduces bulk in your base, as well as distributing the style's weight to a reinforced anchor point.

Stubbing

What do you have to adjust on your machine to sew with stretch fabric?

(Main 3 adjustments)

1. Switch to a stretch needle

2. Switch to a zigzag stitch

3. Increase stitch width

This is the only cosplay I've ever done for a character from media I had (at the time) not personally experienced, having borrowed it at a friend's request. We had a rockin time doing a character duo, and I'm super PSIched to do it again at Anime Boston.

Ness

Though I enjoyed the podcast this character originated from, I fear the need to cosplay from it never fully managed to corrupt me. It would be a simple costume, so it could still happen if I manage to find a red dress in a thrift shop.

This brand of thermoplastic is favored in the cosplay community for its ease in sculpting and durability once molded. It's self adhesive, so make sure to save those scraps!

Describe how to sew a French Seam

Sew with fabric wrong sides together,  trim seam allowance in half, press flat to one side, fold fabric so that right sides are together and sew again
