It is estimated that 1.9 million women are sexually assaulted in the United States per year. More that half (54 percent) of all female rape victims are reportedly under 18. 28 percent of all rape victims are 35 - 64 years old. And 15 percent are ages 12 - 17. 1 out of every 6 american women have to deal with attempted or completed rape in their life time.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) as of 1998 17.7 million american women have been either sexually assaulted or raped. Females that are ages 16 - 19 are 4 times more likely than general population to become victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault in their lifetime.
According to RAINN, for every 1,000 rapes that occur in the United States, 384 of them are actually reported to the police. Out of those only 57 result in an arrest being made. Past the arrest 11 are referred for prosecution, 7 end up resulting in felony conviction, and 6 result in incarceration. majority of rapes are not even reported to the police. Most rapes are not reported due to a feeling of fear embarrassment.
Most women that get raped or sexually assaulted are often times to afraid to tell anybody because they have to be afraid of what will happen to them if they do. This is because its not uncommon for it to be somebody close in your life weather its a coworker, a boss, a family member etc, so it makes them feel like telling somebody we do more harm than good.
Often times girls are blamed for guys' mistakes when it comes to sexualizing us. You see this most prominently in school. Girls are criticized and called horrible names for simply wearing something that quite honestly isn't inappropriate. And then teachers say that we are distracting students from education because maybe we have a rip above the knee, or god forbid, show a little shoulder
We need to start teaching guys to have more respect for us. Instead of teaching guys to view us as nothing more than sexual items, society today instead punishes girls.
