During a meeting with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Pratapgad, Afzal Khan pretended to embrace him but secretly tried to stab him. Anticipating betrayal, Shivaji Maharaj was wearing concealed armour and carried a wagh nakh. When Afzal Khan attacked, Shivaji used the wagh nakh to fatally wound him and escaped safely, leading to a decisive Maratha victory.
