Eugenie painted a wooden square white called a target and placed it in the shark pen. The sharks had to learn that if it pressed its nose against the target, it would get food as a reward.
She made the test harder by having the shark press the target with its nose, then turn and swim to the other end of the shark pen to get its reward.
