What is a short story?
This is where the reader is introduced to the conflict.
What is the inciting incident?
The main person in the story; the "hero."
What is a protagonist?
This is when the speaker says one thing but means the opposite.
What is verbal irony?
Hints the author gives about what will happen later in the story.
What is foreshadowing?
If a story is this, it is not true.
What is fiction or fictional?
This is where the story begins and your are introduced to the characters, the setting, and the mood.
What is the exposition?
This is the person/thing/idea against the main character in a story.
What is an antagonist?
The opposite happens to what the reader expects.
What is situational irony?
This provides that author's feelings about the subject of the story shown through his or her writing style.
What is tone?
These are the events that make up the story.
What is a narrative?
This is the most exciting part of the story and is where the conflict reaches its highest point.
What is the climax?
Name the conflict: The Blank Panther fighting against Captain America
What is person vs. person?
When the audience or reader is aware of something one or more of the characters is not.
What is dramatic irony?
This refers to who is telling the story and may be first person or third person/omniscient.

This is where the conflict has completely resolved and questions are answered. Note...not all stories have this!
What is the resoulution?
Name the conflict: A fisherman fighting against the waves of the raging sea.
What is person vs. environment?
A thief's home is broken into at the same time he/she is breaking into someone else's home is an example of this type of irony.
What is situational?
This is created by the setting or scene causing an emotional response in the reader (may be happiness, sadness, anger, surprise)
What is atmosphere?
A short story has the same elements as this, but a short story covers a shorter period of time.
What is a novel?
This is where most of the action happens; tension and suspense are built.
What is rising action?
This is the most important aspect of the plot and is resolved when the protagonist or antagonist wins or gives up.
