General Story Elements
The time, place and mood
What is setting?
The "good" main character.
Who is the protagonist?
The main problem in a literary work.
What is major conflict?
This sets the stage for the story, providing information about the characters and setting including the point of view.
What is exposition?
Part of the plot that reveals the point of view.
What is the exposition?
The struggle or challenge in the story.
What is conflict?
Intelligent, joyful, shy, outgoing
What are character traits?
An old man (Mr. Schorey) struggles with his iPhone
What is person vs. technology?
The part of the plot when the conflict begins to be worked out and tensions go down.
What is the falling action?
The events that make up the beginning, middle and end of the story.
What is the plot?
tall, short, brown hair, blue eyes
What are character descriptions?
The plot begins to complicate and twist.
What is the rising action?
The main character opposing the protagonist.
Who is the antagonist?
The character is attacked by a grizzly bear.
What is person vs nature/environment?
Problems get solved during this part of the plot.
What is the falling action?
Before Mount Everest was discovered, what was the tallest mountain in the world?
What is Mount Everest (even though it wasn't discovered yet, it was still the tallest in the world!)?
A category of literature such as folktale, poetry and historical fiction.
What is genre?
Characteristics that you can't see.
What are character traits?
Batman vs The Joker
What is person vs person conflict?
This wraps the story up; "and they lived happily ever after."
What is the resolution?
Alec, the rabbit from "Presto the Magician" was this type of character.
