The main character in a piece of fiction which is involved in the main conflict
What is the protagonist?
The struggle when deciding the internal conflict "Should I stay out late?"
What is person vs. self?
On the way to school, the school bus gets a flat tire and the bus driver says, "Excellent! This day couldn't start off any better!"
What is verbal irony?
This is the crisis/turning point/high point of the story
What is the climax?
The life lesson of the story or the message the author is trying to express
What is theme?
The character or force that comes into conflict with the main character
What is the antagonist?
The struggle between 2 characters in the story
What is person vs. person?
A child runs away from someone throwing a water balloon at him and falls into the pool.
What is situational irony?
This is the complication to the problem - the challenge for characters
What is the rising action?
The use of clues to hint at events that will come later in the story
What is the foreshadowing?
When the author tells us what the character is like
What is direct characterization?
The struggle between a character and the school system, legal system, etc.
What is person vs. society?
Girl in a horror film hides in a closet where the killer just went (the audience knows the killer is there, but she does not).
What is dramatic irony?
This follows the climax and answers questions
What is the falling action?
The struggle between two opposing forces which can be internal or external
What is the conflict?
The reader figures out what a character is like by what the character says, thinks, and does
What is indirect characterization?
The struggle between 2 superhereos, one with a cool car and one who can fly
What is Batman vs. Superman?
The President is wounded when a bullet ricochets off his bulletproof car and into his arm.
